Central Bank of Nigeria [CBN] Governor, Godwin Emefiele

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to charge Godwin Emiefele, the embattled former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), to court within one week or release him on bail.

The court presided over by Justice Hamza Muazu gave the order in his ruling in a fundamental human rights suit filed by Emefiele, who was picked by the secret police on June 10, 2023.

Joined as respondents in the suit are the Attorney General of the Federation; the Director General of the DSS and the DSS.

In the suit, Joseph Daudu (SAN), Emefiele’s counsel, said the fundamental human rights of his clients was violated.

However, DSS through its lawyer, I. Awo, objected, saying Emefiele’s detention was lawful as the agency got an order of a Chief Magistrates’ Court to keep him in custody pending conclusion of investigation. Continue Reading…
