Liverpool have a Europa League mountain to climb as they face Atalanta at Gewiss Stadium in tonight’s quarter-final second-leg tie in Italy.
The Reds were shockingly torn apart 3-0 by the Serie A side at Anfield last week and then surrendered the initiative in the Premier League title race on Sunday after a surprise 1-0 loss at home to Crystal Palace. Jurgen Klopp’s side have now only won two of their last five top-flight games.
Such a downturn in form was no more apparent than in the reverse fixture on Merseyside. Atalanta dominated Liverpool, recording the highest xG (2.58) by a visiting team at Anfield since Manchester City in February 2021.
