Insecurity: Gunmen attack bullion van in Imo

There was palpable tension in Ogbor Nguru, Aboh Mbaise local government area of Imo State when a driver of a first generation bank escaped death after a bullion van he was driving somersaulted over intense gunfire by armed men.

The van somersaulted when the driver tried to maneuver bullets from gunmen.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver was ferrying money to the bank when he came under heavy gunfire from armed men, but the police said no money was in the van when the attack occurred.

While trying to maneuvre and escape from the attack, the van somersaulted.

The timely arrival of security operatives further thwarted the plans of the gunmen.

However, Police Public Relations Officer CSP Michael Abatham, who confirmed the incident, said that the police were on the trail of the criminals.

Abatham said, “Sketchy information revealed that the bullion van was returning after delivering money and was attacked by hoodlums. The driver on noticing it tried to escaped unfortunately, his vehicle capsized. No money was carted away please.”
