The Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Ibrahim Nuhu Shuaibu before Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court for fraud.
Shuaibu faces a seven-count charge that includes criminal breach of trust, impersonation, and obtaining funds through false pretenses, totaling N100 million.
One of the charges states: “That you, Nuhu Ibrahim Shuaibu (a.k.a. Ishaku Abdulrazak), and Ilya Garba (now deceased), conspired in 2017 in Kaduna, within the jurisdiction of this honorable court, to commit an illegal act by obtaining money under false pretenses. This is an offense contrary to Section 8(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006, and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.” Continue Reading…
Another charge states: “That you, Nuhu Ibrahim Shuaibu (a.k.a. Ishaku Abdulrazak), in 2018 in Kaduna, with the intent to defraud, obtained a total of N47,050,000.00 (Forty-Seven Million and Fifty Thousand Naira) from Faisal Safiyanu by falsely claiming you could supply him petroleum products, which you knew to be untrue. This offense is contrary to Section 1(1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006, and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.”
When the charges were read to him, Shuaibu pleaded “not guilty,” prompting prosecution counsel M. Lawal to request a trial date. His lawyer, AbdulKareem Audu, did not file a bail application.
Justice Khobo then ordered the defendant to be remanded in EFCC custody.
Shuaibu’s legal troubles began in 2017 when he posed as the Group Executive Director of NNPCL and promised to assist his victim in procuring over 2,000 liters of petroleum products. The victim transferred the agreed cost to Shuaibu’s bank accounts in several installments.
