[EDUCATION] JAMB Official 2020 Cut-off Marks For Admission In All Schools

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) cut-off marks for the 2020/2021 admission exercise have been announced. The JAMB Registrar Prof. Oloyede announced this during the 2020 JAMB Policy meeting. He explained that the decision was taken after each of the institutions had voted and prescribed minimum cut off marks for their schools.

160 was approved as the national minimum benchmark for admission into all Universities

120 was also approved as the cut-off mark for admission into Polytechnics

100 was approved as cut-off mark for Colleges of Education and IEI’s.

Commencement of 2020/2021 Admissions

Speaking at the meeting, Adamu Adamu, Minister of Education, directed JAMB and tertiary institutions to proceed with the conduct of 2020/2021 admissions. He noted that the 2020 admission exercise has kicked off, and asked tertiary institutions to proceed with the conduct of 2020/2021 admissions following the approved guidelines.

The Education Minister who was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, urged JAMB and tertiary institutions to consider just candidates with previous years’ Senior School Certificate Examination and other qualifying results, to proceed with the admission process.

What Happens to 2020/2021 Candidates with Awaiting Results?

Concerning 2020 UTME candidates who filled awaiting results during JAMB registration, the Minister stated that the government will make an arrangement that will accommodate applicants who will be taking the examination when the opportunity to do so is worked out.

He further stated that candidates waiting for their results would only be considered when they are uploaded on the website of JAMB.

Conclusion of 2019/2020 Admission Exercise

The meeting revealed also that for last year’s admission exercise, out of the total number of candidates registered for the UTME, only 1,157,977 candidates had the required five credits with English and Mathematics. 612, 557 candidates were offered admission while about 510,957 admission spaces were unused by tertiary institutions in 2019.
