Supreme Court of Nigeria Justices during hearing

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has commenced the process of screening the 22 judges nominated by the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) to fill empty Supreme Court seats.

The screening is currently underway at the NJC Boardroom, as some of the justices have arrived for the high-level screening.

The panel’s meeting is slated to take approximately a week before the final selection of 11 justices from among the 22 contenders undergoing screening to fill the vacant slots.

On November 16, the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) recommended 22 justices of the Court of Appeal to the National Judicial Council (NJC) for elevation to the Supreme Court.

According to the FJSC document containing the 22 names, six of the nominees are from the North-Central region while two nominees each are from the South-West and the South-South.
