Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, addressing newsmen

The United Nations has accused the Taliban of an “unacceptable and frankly inconceivable” verbal ban on Afghan women working for the global body in the country, although foreign women are still exempted.

The UN has ordered all men and women workers to stop working for 48 hours while they attempt clarification talks with Taliban officials.

In December, a ban was imposed on women working for all NGOs except in the healthcare sector, with the UN initially exempted from that order.
