EPL: I’m ready to be Arsenal captain – Odegaard tells Arteta

Arsenal playmaker, Martin Odegaard, has said he is ready to take over the captain’s armband ahead of the 2022/2023 season.

Gunners boss, Mikel Arteta, is expected to name his new skipper shortly.

Odegaard is one of the favourites to take the armband, following the exits of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last season.

The 23-year-old already captains his country and has made it clear he would be happy to step up.

“It’s not something I think about. I think about the future, and to make that as good as possible, so we’ll see what happens.

“I always enjoy responsibility. I’m a captain for my country (Norway) and it’s a nice experience, so I enjoy that,” Odegaard said.

“I don’t know anything about the situation here, I think that question is for Mikel (Arteta) and the club but if he asked me of course I would be happy to do it.”
