Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has formally resigned from his position to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State.
In a resignation letter dated March 26, 2026, and addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Adelabu expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the Federal Executive Council.

The former minister appreciated the President for the confidence reposed in him, describing his tenure as both an honour and a privilege.
“I wish to sincerely thank Your Excellency for the confidence reposed in me and the opportunity given to serve our great nation under your administration. It has been a privilege contributing to the efforts aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s power sector in line with your Renewed Hope Agenda,” Adelabu said.
He explained that his decision to step down was driven by his political ambition to contest for the governorship of Oyo State.
“My decision to resign is to enable me fully pursue my aspiration to contest for the office of Governor of Oyo State and to dedicate my time and resources to that endeavour,” he added.
Adelabu concluded by reaffirming his respect for the President, stating, “Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest respect and appreciation.”
