Eastland Electricity Distribution Limited has attributed the worsening electricity supply across Ebonyi State to a nationwide drop in power generation, assuring customers that efforts are ongoing to manage the situation.

In an update issued on March 23, 2026, the company’s management said the decline in supply is largely driven by constraints in gas availability to thermal power plants, which has significantly reduced energy generation on the national grid.

“We wish to provide an update on the current power supply situation affecting customers across Ebonyi State. The ongoing drop in electricity supply is primarily due to a nationwide reduction in power generation, largely caused by limited gas supply to thermal power plants,” the management stated.

“Consequently, the allocation of power to distribution companies, including EEDL, has dropped, affecting the volume of electricity we receive for onward distribution to our customers,” it added.

The management also disclosed that the Nigerian Independent System Operator has introduced controlled load shedding to stabilize the grid and prevent a possible system collapse.

“In addition, the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has implemented controlled load shedding measures to maintain grid stability and prevent a system collapse. This means the limited available power is being carefully rationed across different locations,” the statement noted.

EEDL emphasized that the situation is not caused by the company but reflects broader challenges within Nigeria’s power sector.

“Kindly note that this situation is not caused by EEDL, but is a broader industry challenge impacting electricity supply nationwide,” it clarified.

Reassuring customers, the company said it remains committed to distributing available power as efficiently and fairly as possible.

“Be assured that we are closely monitoring developments and will continue to distribute available power as efficiently and equitably as possible. We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued cooperation during this period,” the management concluded. Continue Reading…
