Vice President Kashim Shettima has said it was “heartbreaking” that a large number of Nigerians, whom he labelled as “clowns,” appeared to be happy and were even rejoicing over the news of the naira’s decline, which saw its value drop to an all-time low of N1520 to a dollar.

Mr Shettima noted that he had hoped Nigerians would unite and marshal out strategies to save what’s left of the nation’s currency when the news broke instead of celebrating and gloating across social media.

In a viral video sighted by NewsBand, Vice President Shettima said, “It is not only disheartening and disenchanting, but also heartbreaking that yesterday when the Naira culminated to N1,500 to the dollar, instead of us to coagulate into a single force and salvage our nation economy, sadly, some clowns are celebrating on Twitter of an impending implosion of the Nigerian economy.”

Meanwhile, following the free fall of Naira, the Nigerian Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, on Wednesday, summoned the Central Bank Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, to appear before it next Tuesday.

The Senate wants the CBN governor to answer questions on the state of the economy and the free fall of the naira in the forex market. Continue Reading…
