Palestinian authorities reported 13 deaths from Israeli airstrikes in Gaza on Tuesday, including three Islamic Jihad commanders and 10 civilians.

Israeli cabinet security minister Israel Katz warned Hamas leaders could be targeted for assassination, while Islamic Jihad vowed to retaliate “at any moment and anywhere… to match the size of the crime”.

Forty jets took part in what Israel called “pinpoint strikes”, but a spokesperson admitted “we’re aware of some collateral and we’ll learn more as the day goes ahead”.
